Description
Every criminal practice checks the law lists and makes sure the diary agrees. Usually it does. The times it doesn't are the ones every lawyer remembers: the mention that never made the diary, the client who didn't tell you about their new charges, or the client from two years ago who is back before the court.
Acquit reads the lists for you. Every Queensland court list is checked against your clients and leads as it is published, including the draft Brisbane Supreme and District Court lists, and your firm is told as soon as a client's name is found.
In Smokeball, that means court dates sit on each matter's calendar and in your Outlook calendar, and we tell you if a listing changes. When you record what happened at court, the outcome is saved to the matter as a memo. Tasks you create in Acquit or Smokeball show up on both sides and stay in step.
The rest of Acquit handles the tedious work around a criminal, traffic or domestic violence file. We link you to town agents across Queensland, send them your instructions and save their results back to your file.
Upload a QP9 and a criminal or traffic history to see the penalties and elections for each charge. Draft a registry committal, a s651 application or a bail application from the file. Take a photo of your marked-up file notes on the way out of court and the next dates are in the diary.
Acquit also has offence and penalty lookups, disclosure tracking, current Queensland criminal judgments and benchbooks, who is sitting at which court, a Chrome extension that fills the courts' online adjournment forms, two-way Outlook sync and Lexon EMR review packs.
Smokeball still handles your trust, billing, time recording and document storage.
Acquit is in early access and costs $149 per user per month plus GST, with everything included. Request an invite at acquit.app or email [email protected].

Features
Find your clients on every court list
Every Queensland court list is checked against your clients and leads as it is published. When a name comes up, the solicitor responsible is told in Acquit and gets a Smokeball notification.
Sync court dates with your matters
A court date in Acquit is added to the Smokeball matter's calendar. If the listing is updated, adjourned or removed, it stays in sync in Smokeball.
Save the outcome to the matter
Record what happened at court once, in Acquit. It is saved to the Smokeball matter as a memo, and any tasks you set save as well.
Go from QP9 to court documents
Upload a QP9, bench charge sheet and indictments and the charges are automatically matched to the offence and penalty. Draft registry committals, s651 applications, bail applications and draft orders at the click of a button.
Get a town agent
Post a town agency request at any Queensland court to find a local agent, and send instructions from Acquit. The agent's outcome report and next dates save automatically to the file and sync with the Smokeball matter as a memo.
Record a day's outcomes from a photo
Print a file note for each matter, mark it up by hand at court and take a photo on the way out. Acquit reads the results and next dates, you confirm them, and they go to your diary and onto the Smokeball matter.
Read the history and track the brief
Upload your client's criminal or traffic history and every entry is saved and automatically analysed. We will tell you if charges breach earlier orders, confirm minimum penalties, and eligibility for work licences and special hardship orders. Upload the Index to Brief and Acquit keeps the list of what's missing and helps you keep on top of disclosure requests.
Stay up to date with the law and automate adjournments
Acquit keeps penalties, elections and legislation current, with a community feed of new Queensland criminal judgments, benchbooks and insider local knowledge. A Chrome extension fills the Magistrates and Brisbane District Court adjournment forms automatically, in seconds.
You decide what crosses over
You can choose which matter types sync with Acquit with matter type and data level controls. Acquit is hosted in Sydney with two-factor sign-in, and needs no access to your Smokeball documents, billing or trust.
